Dyslexia Access - Identifying needs
Tuition is delivered in a multisensory phonic way, using highly structured programmes of work tailored to each individual’s needs. Sessions are one to one, ensuring maximum concentration and work output whilst using a relaxed, friendly and fun approach.
Parents may stay during the sessions (and indeed are encouraged to do so). The teaching room is large and a parent can sit back, read a book or browse through the local paper whilst drinking a cup of tea or coffee. They become aware of how hard their child works without the individual being aware of their presence. Parents then realise all the benefits of their child’s individual sessions and can see the progress they are making each session.
Every six months pupils are re-assessed to ensure educational progress is being made. Reports are then given to parents, although there is always ongoing feedback.
Assessment Dyslexia Access offers a professional and fully qualified assessment service. Individual assessments are carried out at the main Dyslexia Centre in Plymouth and at the Liskeard Centre in Cornwall. An educational psychologist and a qualified, specialist teacher carry out the assessments.
Assessments are for all ages, from those of school age to adults. Assessments may also be carried out for students at University requiring assessment for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). Or for those at school requiring assessments for exam concessions.
The assessment consists of several exercises that measure educational attainment, cognitive ability and various areas of intelligence giving rise to as clear and concise a picture as is possible. Assessments are relaxed, enjoyable and interesting experiences for all and provide a profile of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses resulting in a full written report with recommendations.
